About Us
Newcastle Bushwalking Club (NBC) is a group of friendly people committed to having fun safely in the outdoor. The club was founded September 1945. It is incorporated under the NSW Associations Incorporations Act 1984 and is a member of Bushwalking NSW.
The objectives of our club are to:
• Organise bushwalking and allied outdoor adventure activities for all members, and
• Ensure that all activities are conducted in a manner that is safe and enjoyable for all participants, and
• Encourage all members to develop their outdoor skills in leadership, organization, navigation, and first aid, and
• Promote an appreciation of the natural environment and to minimise the environmental impact of our activities.
Our membership in 2022 is over 170 people. The club is a not for profit organisation run by volunteers.
The club organizes a program of outdoor adventure activities including bushwalking, canoeing, mountain biking, car camps as well as training and social functions. Activities are held every weekend and mid week. There are extended trips to more distant locations within Australia.
Our program includes activities suitable for all levels of fitness and experience. Activities are graded to indicate the degree of difficulty. In line with our club objectives, all members are encouraged to contribute by volunteering to organise and lead activities for the program from time to time. Children under the age of 18 are not permitted on club activities
The NBC magazine is published quarterly and is distributed to all members.
Our social activities include a monthly Feature Night where members can get together over dinner if they wish or simply come to hear talks on topics of interest. We also have an annual dinner each Sept at the anniversary of the founding of the club.
Newcastle Bushwalking Club Inc is covered by a public liability insurance policy negotiated by the Bushwalking NSW. Financial members have insurance cover for accidents and public liability and this cover is extended to temporary members. Any claims must be referred to the committee as soon as possible after the incident
