Activity Program

Newcastle Bushwalking Club (NBC) arranges a program of activities for our members including Bushwalking, Cycling, and Kayaking. Our activities include both day walks and overnight walks and also extended walks within Australia.

You must participate in at least one activity as a visitor before applying to join the club.  

After completing an activity you may apply to join by emailing activities@newcastlebushwalkingclub.org.au and letting us know the activity/activities you have completed with the club. We will then send you an email with a link to the membership application form and payment details. Your application will then be considered by the club committee at the next monthly meeting.

Persons considering joining the club, and member’s guests, can ONLY participate as visitors in three activities at no cost before joining.  This is a requirement of our insurance coverage.



Please do not attend activities if you have COVID-19 or have the symptoms of COVID-19 or are generally unwell.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING MUNRO HUT
The Munro Hut on Gloucester Tops has been repaired and is now open for visitors with a new roof 
Thanks to the volunteers who spent this week at the hut carrying out the repairs

Bookings are required for all activities by 2 days prior to the activity (unless a start time is shown, in which case members may simply turn up).  

Emails often go astray so if you don't receive a timely response after emailing a leader please email activities@newcastlebushwalkingclub.org.au with details and we will follow up with the leader if required.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR VISITORS:

Visitors must always contact the leader before attending any activity - if you simply show up without contacting the leader beforehand you will not be allowed to join the activity

When requesting to join an activity please provide the leader with information on your experience and background sufficient that they can assess if the activity is suitable for you.  Also, please provide a phone number in case the leader needs to discuss any matters regarding your participation in the activity.

Visitors will be required to read and sign an Acknowledgement of Risks and Obligations at each activity. For details click here

Walk - Stockton. A pleasant walk through the streets of Stockton past historic sites and buildings. We will do the Shipwreck Walk (Stockton Breakwater) and a short beach stretch to morning tea at Lexie's Café. We will walk on the ballast grounds on the way back to the ferry wharf. Option for people to catch the ferry to and from start. Under 10 km. Booking required.

Turn right at the end of Shoal Bay road onto the one way loop road.

Walk - Bateau Bay - Toowoon Bay - The Entrance - Long Jetty Circuit ~ 13 km. This walk takes in the best of the Bateau Bay/The Entrance/Long Jetty peninsula's seaside and lakeside habitats. Preferably bring both morning tea and lunch. There may be opportunities to buy food & drinks along the way, but there is no guarantee, yet alone it will be at a convenient time. Map Gosford 1:25,000. Walk - Starting with a steep ascent up Heaton Gap from the Watagan Forest Motel in Brunkerville, we follow a popular section of the Great North Walk to Heaton Lookout. From here we continue along the Great North Walk through some rainforest eventually reaching Barniers Road. We follow Barniers Road up to Heaton Rd. From here we join an unmarked trail downhill to the Honeycomb Cave to take in some scenic views. From here we go back up and follow a trail back down to Heaton Lookout and follow the road back to the start 13kms. Booking Required. Must have good hill climb fitness to cope with the start. Walk - Bateau Bay - Foresters Beach CCT - 10km. Via Wyrrabalong Sth rock platform and returning along the Wyrrabolong Trail (or vis versa). Features of the route include Crackneck Lookout, Wyrrabalong Lookout and the coloured pebbles of Crackneck Point. Map - Gosford 1:25,000. Grade S-M-200. NOTE: the route entails considerable rock hopping. Bring morning tea. Optional picnic lunch afterwards, byo or buy nearby (traditional F&C’s, sandwich/pies/cakes, cafe, general store). We will be using the Ken and Audrey Owens Walkway, The Fernleigh Track, fire trails and some street walking. ADVANCE NOTICE OF FUTURE ACTIVITIES

Blue Mountains 2024 for NBC Members - Five days of walks, Saturday 29 June through Wednesday 3 July;  followed by one or two days of rides.  Come for all, or for some.   Choice of hard, medium, or easy walks or simply take in the views and the cafes.  We will split into smaller groups each day.   This is well in advance but as accommodation may book out it is better to be early than miss out.  Contact the organiser for an information sheet before you book accommodation.
